The Gymnast.
Every year, around New Year’s Day, we see these little marvels of ingenuity appear which delight children, and which still attract the attention of parents.
The gymnast shown in the attached figure is doing the parallel bars exercise.
These two bars are very simple and easy to assemble or disassemble.
Two supports formed of two vertical rods, are joined at their base and at their upper part; the parallel bars are fixed on its rods.
The gymnast places himself on these two bars and maintains himself.
In reality they are two metal masses of an elongated shape which move on the bars.
These masses are carried on a shaft set in motion by a small clockwork mechanism.
The effect obtained is very curious.
We see the gymnast moving very easily along the bars, executing all the appropriate movements very well.
