Fernand Martin 202 “L’eminent Avocat” Automata clockwork figure – representing a courtroom Lawyer, the tinplate courtroom box is tinprinted in simulated wood grain, with green top, the standing Lawyer figure has a black cloth gown, white cravat, white card cuffs and his metal hands and head are painted flesh coloured pink.

All is mounted on a tinprinted baseplate.

In the Avocat’s left hand is his original card reading “Code Civil”.

This toy is a rare variation without the Lawyer’s hat and was purchased by the vendors family from new in 1905 from Gamages store in London which is confirmed by a Gamages price label to the side of the box reading 1/3d!

The clockwork motor is not working having been incorrectly wound but is present and appears complete with the integral key.

The toy has clearly been cared for and kept in its box for most of its life and this is reflected in the condition which is otherwise overall Good Plus to Excellent for display, the painted head particularly still retains its brightness and is the first such example that Vectis have had.

It stands 22cm or almost 9″ tall and still retains a Good Plus original crisp card box with Gamages price label and black and white illustration to the lid.

Estimate: £1000 – £1500
